a community of two

In Locus Parentis

A teenage boy cares for the youngest family member and his sister nurtures the family hound while a Nat protects all of them.

a community of two

common are the strings
that pull us together
the communal us
a young woman who sees
her country as paisley
and burnished brocade
and exists within a decorated life

she loves by it and lives it
and from my distance I cherish it too
we are twins in color
we find fellowship in patterns

yet my country thrives
I sit by structures where newborn glow
sows confidence, while hers shed paint
and humidity makes mildew
of the faint wash of aqua

it is a difference that could split us
this diversity
yet because of the sharing
the seam stays sewn
